04-23-09 Beyonce is finally back on tour, and will be making a short stop in Uncasville on 07-23.
Beyonce was born on September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas. She is an American R&B singer/songwriter and actress. Beyonce enrolled in dance school at a very young age, where her dance instructor discovered her singing ability while Beyonce began humming a song and finished it off with a high pitch note which she hit exactly. In 1993, Destiny’s child was formed and began to perform in local events and after four years on the road, was signed to Columbia Records in late 1997. That same year, Destiny’s Child recorded their debut breakout song “ Killing Time”, which was featured on the Men in Black film. Destiny’s Child rose to fame selling thousands of records worldwide and became an R&B icon for women. Beyonce began to record her first solo album but had to put the album on hold due to the group recording their final album entitled Destiny Fulfilled, which hit number two on the Billboard 200. In 2006, Destiny’s Child was recognized as the world’s best selling female group of all time and was the last the group was officially together. Beyonce eventually released her first solo album, which was a huge success. Her follow up album, B’Day was released in September of 2004. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling more than 541,000 copies the very first week. B’Day soon went three time platinum and had the highest sales of 2006. Beyonce’S most recent album is entitled I Am… Sasha Fierce. Beyonce explains that this name comes from her alter ego that portrays through her as she performs on stage. “If I Were a Boy” and “Single Ladies” are the first two singles released from the album. Beyonce will kick off her Beyonce’s I am … Tour in the spring of 2009.
