04-22-09 Toby Keith is an American country musician born July 8 1961. Toby Keith was born in Clinton, Oklahoma. Toby Keith graduated from Moore high school in 1979, and went on to work in the booming oil fields. At the age of 20, he formed the Easy Money band where they played at local bars as he continued to work in the oil industry. The oil industry soon began to decline and he found himself unemployed. He fell back on his football dream and played defensive end for the semi pro Oklahoma City Drillers. In 1993, Toby Keith went to Nashville, Tennessee and distribute copies of a demo his band had made. Toby Keith had no luck and promised he would give up on a music career if he had not reached his goal of being signed by the time he was 30. Toby Keith was well passed the age of 30 when a flight attendant gave a cop of Keith’s demo tape to a Mercury Records executive, while traveling on a flight. He then went to watch Keith live and signed him on the spot. Toby Keith’S debut single “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” went to number 1 on the Billboard country singles chart, and his self entitled album was certified platinum. Toby Keith’S first four albums with Mercury Records earned gold or higher certification. As of 1999, Toby Keith signed with Dreamworks Records and released his breakthrough single “How Do You Like Me Now”, which was the Number One country song of 2000. His next three albums were certified multiplatinum and each produced number one hit singles. After the ending of Dreamworks in 2005, Toby Keith founded his own label entitled Show Dog Nashville. Overall, Toby Keith has released ten studio albums and also charted over than forty singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs.
